Another changeable day of weather is in store for northern and western parts of Britain as low pressure moves away into the northern North Sea bringing more showers and longer spells of rain. For the south and east of England, however, the main impact will be the arrival of cooler and fresher air spreading in from the west rather than any meaningful rain.

This morning begins with scattered showers across many regions, especially Scotland, Ireland and northern England, while more persistent rain affects Northern Ireland and the far north and west of Scotland. Here, it will be a rather wet and windy day as the rain only slowly edges a little further east. Elsewhere, some heavy showers are expected to develop across central and eastern Scotland by this afternoon, bringing a risk of hail and thunder. There will also be some showers across Ireland, northern England and parts of Wales, although these are unlikely to be as heavy, which leaves much of central, eastern and southern England with another largely fine and dry day. It will be rather windy, particularly across northern and western regions, and those winds will draw in cooler air. Maximum temperatures will range from 16°C to 20°C across the north and west, reaching highs of 22°C to 25°C in the southeast of England.

A cooler and fresher night follows for many places with showers or longer spells of rain continuing across northern parts of the UK. A few showers may drift into central regions at times, but the southeast is likely to remain dry. It stays dry here again tomorrow with plenty of sunny spells while further north conditions gradually become drier and brighter as the showers ease and winds begin to ease but it will be cooler with temperatures generally be close to the seasonal average.
