We arrive at the new working week with hot air returning to southern regions of the British Isles thanks to warmer air being pulled northwards by an area of low pressure edging in from the west. This low will bring an increasing risk of rain and showers over the next few days, especially across northern and western regions, before cooler air moves down from the northwest later in the week.

It is a cool and fresh start to Monday across the far north of Scotland but generally warmer and more humid air is now moving north from the south as a warm front edges its way northwards, bringing cloud and outbreaks of rain to parts of Northern Ireland, central and southern Scotland, and northern England. This cloud and showery rain will continue to push north across Scotland today while many parts of England and Wales enjoy a fine, dry and very warm day. There is the risk of the odd heavy shower breaking out later this afternoon, but most of the showers will be across Ireland, Northern Ireland and Scotland. In the sunshine, temperatures will rise quickly to reach highs of 30°C to 34°C across central and south-eastern England. Sea breezes will keep coastal regions cooler while across much of the north and west, under the cloud, temperatures will be held back in the high teens or low twenties.

A warm evening follows across the south, with a slightly increased risk of a shower developing, although most of the showery rain will remain across northern and western regions as we head through the night. There is also the risk of some heavy and thundery downpours in places. Tomorrow is then set to be another mostly fine and very warm day across the southeast of the UK, but for many places there will be more cloud, bringing the risk of showers or longer spells of rain, some of which may be heavy and thundery.
