Yesterday brought a marked contrast in temperatures across the country. While persistent low cloud and a brisk onshore breeze held temperatures across eastern coastal counties of England to the high teens, the heat shifted further west and southwest where temperatures once again climbed above 30°C. That pattern is set to continue over the next few days.
A north-easterly breeze overnight has allowed areas of low cloud to spread well inland so for many places Sunday is beginning on a rather grey note and feeling noticeably fresher across eastern regions. However, the strong July sunshine will soon get to work, lifting and dispersing much of the cloud to leave another largely fine day. There will still be more cloud across parts of northern Britain, where the odd shower cannot be ruled out, while a very isolated shower may also develop across the far southwest of England. Otherwise, it will be another dry day with plenty of sunshine. Temperatures will once again vary considerably, ranging from the high teens or low twenties across the north and eastern coastal areas to highs of 28°C to 32°C across Wales, southern England and the southwest.
A fine evening and night follow for most places, although the odd isolated shower remains possible for a time. Low cloud will once again become more extensive overnight, especially across northern and eastern areas where it will make for a much more comfortable night for sleeping. Further south and west, however, it will remain rather warm. Looking ahead to tomorrow, it's very much a case of more of the same. High pressure continues to dominate bringing another predominantly fine and settled day, with the highest temperatures once again reserved for southern and western Britain thanks to the cooling influence of the north-easterly breeze further east.
