Hot conditions are developing across much of western mainland Europe and some of this heat will make its way into south-eastern parts of the UK during the next couple of days, but for the north and west it will remain cooler and more unsettled with more rain at times.
Indeed, a frontal system is bringing a wet start to Thursday across many parts of Ireland and Northern Ireland and these outbreaks of rain, locally heavy, will continue to push north-eastwards today to bring a wet spell for much of central and southern Scotland before the rain tends to ease and turn more showery later on. The far north and northwest of Scotland may hang onto mainly dry conditions but, wherever you are in these northern and western regions, temperatures will be in the mid to high teens at best although it will feel quite muggy.
This leaves many parts of England and Wales with a largely fine and dry day with sunny spells, although some heavy showers may break out over parts of Wales and northwest England this afternoon. The best of the sunshine will be across East Anglia and southeast England and this will be reflected in the temperatures with maximums of a rather humid 25°C to 29°C.
Some of that heat may spark heavy showers or thunderstorms across the far southeast of England by this evening and these may rumble on into the night, but for many places it will be a dry night with clear spells and temperatures not falling too far. Meanwhile, for much of the north and west it will remain cloudy and damp with rain becoming more persistent again later in the night. This takes us into another very similar day tomorrow with the north and west of the country remaining cooler and wetter whilst the south and east are sunnier and warmer.
