Pressure is now falling across much of the country and will continue to fall in advance of an area of low pressure pushing in from the near continent tomorrow. This system will bring the potential for some heavy rain across eastern regions tomorrow, but in the meantime the shower risk will be increasing in many places today and tonight.
We already have some heavy showers making their way westwards across parts of central and eastern England this morning whilst showers are also affecting parts of Ireland. Elsewhere and there is a fair amount of sunshine to start the day although mist and low cloud has become more extensive again overnight and will take some time to shift. Indeed, for many regions there will be more cloud around today compared to yesterday with further showers breaking out. The heaviest showers are expected across parts of southwest England, Ireland and Northern Ireland where some torrential downpours and thunder are possible. Showers elsewhere will tend to be more scattered with many northern and western regions seeing plenty of bright or sunny weather but eastern coasts may well remain cool and murky. Temperatures will range from a chilly 12°C or 13°C along those eastern coasts to highs of 18°C to 21°C in the sunnier spots but overall values may be a touch down on yesterday due to larger cloud amounts.
Low cloud becomes more extensive again tonight and as low pressure approaches from the southeast so further showers or longer spells of rain are expected to develop, turning locally heavy and thundery. Rain is likely to become persistent across central and eastern England later in the night and into tomorrow before moving north and west to bring an increasingly wet spell for much of northern Britain. Further to the south and west the rain will be more showery in nature with more in the way of drier and brighter spells but it will be cooler than of late.
