A ridge of high pressure is trying to extend across much of Britain and Ireland today and will bring plenty of fine, sunny and warm weather to many regions. However, a few showers will break out in the west, and for the northeast it will be rather overcast and chilly.
The morning dawns largely dry with sunny spells for many areas once any early mist and fog patches clear but there are some areas of low cloud around, especially towards the east and northeast. The low cloud will quite quickly burn back to eastern coasts to leave many areas fine and sunny, but on the beaches in the east it may well remain cool and misty. Low cloud will also linger throughout the day across much of northern and eastern Scotland, bringing some light rain and drizzle in places.
It will be a largely dry day otherwise, but by this afternoon a few scattered downpours may well break out over parts of Ireland and southwest England. They will be hit-and-miss affairs with many places missing them, but where they do occur then they could turn heavy with a rumble or two of thunder.
In the sunshine temperatures will reach highs of 20°C to 24°C quite widely so feeling very pleasant but it will be cooler around coasts and especially towards the northeast where values will struggle to make the low teens in that north/northeast breeze. In the sunshine UV levels will be high so remember the sun screen with pollen levels also on the increase too.
Little change is expected tonight with any showers in the west dying out to leave a dry night but mist and low cloud will again become more extensive, especially in the north and east. This will burn back to northern and eastern coasts tomorrow to leave many places with a mainly dry and bright day tomorrow but once again a few heavy showers may break out towards the west.
