Welcome to meteorological summer! Yes, June is here and with the change of month comes something of a change in the weather this weekend as high pressure to the west tries to build in settling things down. However, this high does not look like taking control for long with signs of cooler and more showery conditions returning from the north as we head into next week.
Back to this morning and it is a mostly dry start to the weekend but there are variable amounts of cloud drifting down from the north and some of this cloud is thick enough to bring a few light showers to parts of eastern England as well as over parts of Northern Ireland. These will tend to ease away this morning and then for most places it will be a mostly dry day with variable cloud amounts and some sunny spells, the best of the sunshine tending to be around coasts this afternoon, however, there will still be the risk of an odd isolated shower breaking out later on, mainly over higher parts of Wales and northern England. In the best of the sunny spells temperatures will reach maximums of 18°C to 21°C, but it will be cooler around coasts and where it stays cloudier whilst brisk winds towards the southeast of England will keep it cooler here too.
Many places will see a dry night with lengthy clear spells developing although cloud amounts will tend to increase in the northwest later bringing some rain and drizzle, especially across northern and western Scotland. Sunday is then set to be a cloudier day across much of Scotland and Northern Ireland with some rain and drizzle in places. That cloud will edge further south into parts of Ireland, Wales and northern England during the course of the day but for much of the rest of England and Wales it will be a fine, dry and pleasantly warm day.
