A return to a more traditional synoptic pattern for the start of the new working week with low pressure now to the north and west of the UK and Ireland meaning that milder south-westerly winds have returned for many areas but it generally remains rather changeable.
It is still a rather chilly start to the day across rural parts of Scotland but generally temperatures in most regions are starting off in the mid-single figures. It is a dry start for much of southern and eastern England along with central parts of Scotland, but elsewhere we have some showers feeding in from the west. The remnants of yesterday's frontal system is bringing a wet start to the Northern Isles while another trough is bringing outbreaks of rain into Ireland and Northern Ireland.
That band of rain will push further north and east today, reaching much of Scotland by this afternoon along with western parts of England and most of Wales. Brighter conditions with showers will follow into the west, but for much of eastern and south-eastern England it should remain mostly dry today with some sunny spells with conditions also cheering up across the Northern Isles.
It will be a rather breezy day, especially in exposure, but temperatures for most places will be higher than recent days with maximums coming in at around 10°C to 13°C in the north and 14°C to 17°C towards the south and southeast of the UK.
Showery outbreaks of rain will continue to affect many northern and western regions of the country tonight with the southeast of England holding onto the driest and clearest conditions but it will be a milder night for all. Tomorrow sees further showers or longer spells of rain affecting many western regions and although eastern regions will be drier and brighter, some showers may break out here by the afternoon.
