Low pressure moving northwards from the southwest will take increasing control of our weather during the next few days bringing a much more unsettled spell with the risk of heavy, thundery downpours. It will also be rather warm and humid, particularly across England and Wales.

Wednesday begins with bands of showers already pushing northwards across southern parts of England, Wales and Ireland and up into Northern Ireland. Some of these could be heavy with a risk of thunder, although the nature of the showers means they will be rather hit-and-miss affairs with some places staying dry. As we head through the day the showers and thunderstorms will continue to make their way northwards into northern England and southwest Scotland, tending to ease with time as brighter conditions return to southern regions. However, further heavy and thundery showers may well break out here later. Meanwhile, for much of Scotland it will be a largely dry and bright day once any low cloud clears. It will be a rather muggy day with temperatures widely reaching the low to mid-twenties, although it will be a touch cooler in the far northeast.

Further showers will push northwards this evening and tonight before tending to ease allowing many places to see a drier period with some clear spells, although mist and low cloud will develop in places. Later in the night, showery outbreaks of rain, again locally heavy and thundery, will push into southern counties of England. This rain will continue northwards during Thursday, bringing the potential for some torrential downpours, thunderstorms and hail in places. Brighter conditions will follow into southern regions, although further scattered heavy showers could develop. Across Scotland, western areas are set to remain mostly fine and dry, whilst towards the east it will turn increasingly showery as the day progresses.
