Fresh Showery Days
Added : Sat 4 July : 08:42 BST

Another pretty warm day is in store across parts of southeast England and East Anglia today with temperatures in the mid to high seventies. It will be feeling somewhat fresher than recent days here, however, and for the rest of Britain and Ireland it will be much cooler and fresher. The hot air has been pushed away to the east, leaving in its wake a much cooler flow coming in from off the Atlantic.

Also associated with the cooler air is low pressure, and this will become the main feature of our weather over the next few days as it slowly tracks across Britain. This low will bring plenty of showers or longer spells of rain with it, but there will still be some sunny spells to enjoy at times.

This morning has started off on a bright note for many areas, but showers are already affecting Ireland, Wales and southwest England and some of these are on the heavy side. As we go through the day showers will become more widespread in many parts, with some heavy and thundery ones likely too. The best chance of staying dry will be towards the southeast where it will probably remain mostly dry. This is good news for the Ladies Final at Wimbledon, with a fine and warm afternoon in store and just the small risk (20%) of a shower. Temperatures generally will be much cooler than recently, but still warm in the southeast.

Many of the showers will ease back to western areas tonight, before becoming more widespread once again tomorrow. Again they will become heavy with the risk of thunder, especially towards northern and western areas. Temperatures will be near normal for many, perhaps still just above normal in the southeast.

This pattern then looks like continuing well into next week with showers or longer spells of rain expected everywhere at some point. The showers by day will be heavy with a risk of thunder, but will tend to mostly die away at night. It will be a much cooler and fresher week, and more comfortable for many!

 Not As Hot
Added : Fri 3 July : 04:28 BST

Changes are afoot this morning as the hot weather that many areas have been experiencing recently is slowly pushed away to the east. The change has been brought about by a cold front that's slowly been moving north-eastwards across Britain and Ireland. Storms broke out overnight ahead of the front across south-eastern Britain, whilst the cold front itself brought some thundery rain to some western areas - notably around the Irish Sea.

This change has been something of a nightmare to forecast as the cold front has become very slow moving for the last 18 hours or so, but it does look like it will finally push on north-eastwards as we go through today. For today then and many northern and eastern areas will see another very warm and humid day with scattered heavy showers and thunderstorms breaking out. There will still be some sunshine around, and this will help temperatures rise quickly with highs into the high twenties.

Meanwhile, further to the south and west, conditions will gradually turn brighter and fresher today, particularly across Ireland and the far southwest of England. These brighter and fresher conditions with sunny spells will bring a pleasant end to the day to many parts of southern England, Wales and Ireland as they slowly extend their way northeast, with just a scattering of showers across parts of Ireland and the southwest. Temperatures will peak in the low twenties across these areas, and it won't be as hot or as sticky as recent days.

The fresher theme will continue to become evident tonight as the remaining rain and showers clear all but the far northeast. Skies will clear and temperatures will drop back into the low teens. Showers will arrive in western areas later in the night, and this will set the theme for the weekend with sunshine and scattered showers for most regions. The best of the dry weather will always be towards the southeast where it will remain pleasantly warm, but on the whole it will be much fresher.
