Fewer Showers
Added : Wed 8 September : 22:47 BST

Thursday will be a vastly improved day across central and eastern areas of England after yesterday’s pretty miserable and wet weather - especially across the southeast. A ridge of high pressure will bring drier conditions, but it isn’t guaranteed to stay dry with a continued risk of showers across northern and eastern areas in particular.

Many areas will see sunny spells for much of the time though, and many central and western areas will enjoy a dry day. The showers will be pretty well scattered across northern and eastern areas too, but if you catch one it could well be on the heavy side. Temperatures everywhere will be around or just above normal, and it will feel quite warm in the sunshine and with light winds.

Later in the day, thickening cloud will bring some spots of rain to the far west of Ireland, and this heralds a wet Thursday night across much of Ireland, with the rain spreading across into Scotland, northwest England and Wales too. Eastern areas of England will remain dry and with clear skies it will be a rather cool night.

For Friday it will be a cloudy day for many with outbreaks of rain at times across northern and western areas. Some heavier pulses of rain are likely to push up from the southwest at times too, bringing some rather wet conditions across Wales and the southwest in particular. The southeast will remain dry with some bright spells and it will be warm here, but the cloud and rain will arrive here by Saturday whilst northern and western areas turn brighter with scattered showers.

 Improving For A Time
Added : Tue 7 September : 23:15 BST

Low pressure is still controlling the weather across Britain and Ireland, but over the next couple of days a weak ridge of high pressure will try and settle things down again for a time, before a new area of low pressure arrives at the end of the week bringing more wind and rain into the northwest.

Wednesday will be a rather changeable day, particularly across southern and eastern areas where further showers or spells of rain are expected at times, and some of this rain will be heavy at times. It won't be wet everywhere though, as there will be some drier and sunnier intervals to be had. The best of the drier weather on offer is likely to be across northern and western areas, but even here a scattering of showers is likely.

Many of the showers will die away on Wednesday night, and Thursday starts fine for many places. Although a scattering of showers are likely across northern and eastern areas, for most it should be a dry day with some sunny spells making it feel very pleasant. However, it won't last with rain and brisk winds set to return from off the Atlantic on Friday across north-western areas with the southeast probably staying dry and quite warm.
