This weekend will see the arrival of the next version of Metcheck which many of you have been testing out recently and seem to really love which is a good thing?!
The new version has now been tested, packed up and is ready to be deployed on the main server cluster but unfortunately it isn't as easy and just copy and pasting the new site across as loads of the architecture behind the scenes is also changing as we move away from the GFS model and instead replace it with the stunningly good GHX model which you are going to love more than our picture of cows.
On Sunday we will shut down the main site at 9am and you will be able to get all your latest weather information and fixes on the Metcheck Facebook page as well as be first to know what time the new site will be ready for access, so if you aren't following us already then now is a good time to hop over and like our page so you don't miss a thing.
Whilst you will notice the site looking cleaner and brighter as well as huge amounts of updates to features like the lightning detection, live maps, hourly forecasts etc. The main focus of this upgrade has been just two things.... Easy to understand and navigate and accuracy. We can't emphasise accuracy enough, as for the last year we have been at the mercy of the accuracy of the GFS model which has performed so poorly with things like cloud cover and rainfall (both of which are rather common in the UK for some reason). The GHX represents the next generation of weather models which not only take a blend of the best models in the world, but also can monitor model output in real-time against observations, decide which model is performing best and then adjust the model blend to produce the best weather forecast possible.
For the coders out there we will also be providing free JSON access to all the data, so if you fancy building your own weather site or apps using the most accurate weather data then you can do that too.
So, two things to remember.... Follow us on Facebook now and don't forget to put your clocks back an hour on Sunday.
