It's another cold, frosty and foggy start to the day across many parts of England and Wales thanks to high pressure dominating. However this high is starting to slowly slip away south/south-eastwards and this is allowing slightly milder and cloudier south-westerly winds to move in across Scotland and Northern Ireland, with these milder conditions spreading further south during the next couple of days.
Once again this morning there are some pretty thick patches of freezing fog across parts of England and Wales this morning with visibility below 50 metres in places, especially towards the south and east. However outside of the foggy areas it will be a bright start with some sunny spells although for Scotland and Northern Ireland there is more in the way of cloud around. The fog and frost will slowly lift today but once again some regions will remain cold and misty all day, otherwise for most places it will be another dry day with wintry sunshine, especially towards the south and east. Meanwhile the cloud in the north will tend to thicken with some light rain and drizzle moving into the northwest later on. Temperatures will be on the chilly side with highs of 2°C to 5°C in the south, but it will be milder in coastal areas and also towards the far northwest where double figure maximums can be expected.
Another cold and frosty evening follows for much of England with fog thickening up again, but the fog and frost will tend to become confined to the southeast overnight as cloud and breeze increases from the north and west, the cloud bringing some rain or drizzle to the far northwest. This takes us into a slightly milder but cloudier day tomorrow as a south-westerly breeze becomes more noticeable and further rain or drizzle will affect the north and west.
