It's Good Friday but as far as the weather is concerned then the news isn't that good, although admittedly it could be a lot worse. Weather fronts are slowly making their way south-eastwards across the country today bringing cloudy and rather damp conditions with them, but brighter and colder conditions are following into the far north although there will be some showers too.
It's a rather cloudy start to the Easter weekend then with the best of any bright or sunny spells this morning coming across southern and south-eastern parts of England as well as over northern parts of Scotland although here there will be some scattered showers around. Meanwhile thicker cloud is bringing some rain and drizzle to parts of western and southern Scotland, Northern Ireland and down into northwest England and parts of Wales. These damp conditions continue to sink southwards during today but it will be a slow process with much of southern and south-eastern England remaining dry. Meanwhile the brighter and more showery conditions in the far north will move further south across many parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland but as it turns colder some of the showers will turn wintry over the Scottish mountains. Maximum temperatures today will be in the range of 10°C to 14°C for most, perhaps a degree or two higher across the southeast of England.
That cloudy, damp weather continues its journey across central and southern parts of England and Wales tonight, becoming confined to the far south by the morning. Clearer skies follow allowing it to turn chilly with some patchy frost in the north but further showers will affect the north and west, these wintry over higher parts of Scotland. Easter Saturday will then be a drier and brighter day for many areas with some sunny spells, but showers will affect the north and west in particular where it will also be rather breezy.
