It's another chilly April morning out there with a widespread frost having formed overnight where skies remained clear. The Arctic northerly flow is gradually getting cut off today as high pressure tries to build in from the west, but it will continue to feed in showers to central and eastern regions. Later on today a frontal system moving in from the northwest will bring thickening cloud and some patchy rain into the north before this system moves southwards tonight and tomorrow.
Showers are continuing to run down eastern coasts of England this morning, these locally heavy and wintry in places, and they will tend to become more widespread for a time today across central and eastern districts before tending to become fewer and further between by this evening. For much of the country it will be a drier and brighter day with some sunny spells, the best of these towards the west and southwest, but across many parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland it will become increasingly cloudy as outbreaks of rain and drizzle begin to push in from the northwest this afternoon. Temperatures will again be on the cold side for many with maximums of 7°C to 11°C, perhaps a degree or two warmer towards the more sheltered southwest away from that northerly breeze.
It turns clear and frosty across central and southern parts of England and Wales tonight but elsewhere temperatures will tend to hold up above freezing as that thicker cloud and patchy rain or drizzle continues to make its way further south. This takes us into a rather cloudy day tomorrow with early sunshine in the south giving way to mostly cloudy skies and some occasional patchy rain although the north and northeast will start to brighten up again whilst temperatures will remain rather subdued.
