Low pressure sitting to the northwest of Britain and Ireland combined with rising pressure over mainland Europe brings a rather windy day to many areas with fresh to strong south-westerlies picking up. This low will also throw a frontal system in across the country with a trailing weather front then set to linger across some areas for the next couple of days, marking the boundary between the rather warm and muggy air to the southeast and cooler, fresher conditions to the northwest.
It's bright start to Monday across eastern parts of England and Scotland but cloud is readily increasing from the west with outbreaks of rain already affecting many parts of the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland along with parts of Wales and southwest England. That rain continues to push eastwards today across many areas, heaviest and most persistent across parts of Northern Ireland, Wales, northern England and southern Scotland with parts of southeast England and northeast Scotland seeing very little, if any, rainfall. Somewhat drier and brighter conditions will then develop for a time this afternoon before further rain moves in across Ireland and Wales later this afternoon. Due to the cloud and blustery winds temperatures today will be rather subdued with maximums in the range of 13°C to 17°C, warmest across southeast England.
A wet night follows across many parts of Wales and northwest England with some heavy and persistent rain feeding in from the southwest. There will be some patchy rain and drizzle elsewhere otherwise it will be a drier picture with the winds easing. That rain continues into Tuesday, slowly edging a little further southeast with time, but for south-eastern regions it will become bright and warm and for the northwest it will also be brighter but cooler and fresher.
