Following yesterday's very unsettled weather today sees a vast improvement for many parts of Britain and Ireland as a ridge of high pressure builds in. However this ridge will be short-lived and the next Atlantic frontal system will be moving in from the southwest later bringing more rain with it although the winds won't be as strong as they were yesterday.
We still have the remnants of yesterday's unpleasant weather across north-easternmost parts of England along with eastern and north-eastern Scotland this morning as strong and blustery northwest winds bring further spells of rain with them but as we go through the day that rain will gradually become confined to the far northeast of Scotland along with the Northern Isles. Otherwise for much of the country Wednesday will be a much drier and brighter day with plenty of sunshine around before cloud begins to increase from the southwest later as outbreaks of rain move in across Ireland this afternoon before reaching parts of Wales and southwest England by this evening. In the sunshine and with lighter winds temperatures will be warmer than yesterday with maximums of 16°C to 20°C, but wetter parts of the northeast will see values remain in single figures.
The rain in the far northeast will finally pull away tonight and then many parts of Scotland will see a dry and chilly night. However the rain in the southwest will continue to push north-eastwards across many parts of England, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, the rain heaviest and most persistent over western hills. Further spells of rain then push north-eastwards tomorrow, turning heavy and persistent over parts of Wales and northwest England again, but for parts of Scotland and southeast England it should be mainly dry for much of the day with some sunny spells.
