The Spanish Plume that brought severe flash flooding to Cornwall yesterday evening followed by heavy overnight thunderstorms in places continues to push northwards today taking the storm risk with it. Low pressure is now taking charge of our weather and is set to dominate for the next few days with further showers or longer spells of rain expected in many places whilst temperatures will drop back to near normal after a hot day in the east today.
To start with this morning we have scattered thundery showers pushing northwards across parts of England, Wales, Ireland and up into Northern Ireland, some of these showers locally heavy with hail. Not everywhere is seeing the showers though and for much of Scotland it is a dry start to Wednesday with some sunny spells. Those showers will continue to push north today bringing the risk of downpours to parts of Scotland during the course of the day but across England and Wales it will turn drier and sunnier, especially across central and eastern regions where temperatures will rocket, perhaps hitting 30°C to 32°C over parts of East Anglia this afternoon. However out towards the west it will be cloudier and cooler with some locally heavy rain pushing east across Ireland and Northern Ireland before it clears from the west later.
The high temperatures over central and eastern regions this afternoon could then spark further heavy thunderstorms over central and northern regions of England later today but these will be hit and miss affairs with many places missing them. We advise you to keep an eye on the radar and satellite as if they do develop then there could be some severe weather with a risk of large hail and flash flooding. Showers and longer spells of rain then continue tonight, especially across the north and west, with further heavy downpours in places and this then takes us into a changeable day tomorrow with the westerly winds picking up to bring in cooler and fresher air.
