A weak ridge of high pressure is affecting many parts of Britain and Ireland today but it will only be a transient feature with a deepening Atlantic low set to bring wet and windy weather in from the west tonight and tomorrow. This low looks like becoming unseasonably deep to the west of the country, dropping to around 975mb during tomorrow, bringing severe gales to the open northeast Atlantic with gales affecting exposed parts of the west and northwest of the country later on Wednesday and into Thursday.
This morning is starting off with little wind across the country and there are one or two mist or fog patches to clear. They will soon do so though and then for many places Tuesday will be a fine and dry day with plenty of sunny spells around, and more in the way of sunshine around over central and eastern regions compared to yesterday. However, one or two scattered heavy showers may break out this afternoon just about anywhere, but more likely over western and northern regions. Meanwhile, eastern coastal regions may well continue to hang onto a northerly breeze and a lot of cloud for much of the day with the odd light shower, whilst out towards the southwest thickening cloud will bring some rain and drizzle in across western and southern parts of Ireland and later towards parts of Wales and southwest England. Otherwise most places will see a pleasant summer's day and temperatures will respond in the sunshine with maximums of 19°C to 24°C quite widely.
Central and eastern regions of the country stay dry with clear spells tonight but out to the west freshening winds will bring thickening cloud and outbreaks of heavy rain in across Ireland, this rain extending into much of western Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales and western regions of England by dawn. Wednesday will then be an unsettled day with the rain and brisk winds continuing to push eastwards before brighter conditions follow on from the west although further showers are likely to break out in the west later in the day.
