An Atlantic frontal system pushing eastwards across Britain and Ireland today is bringing a band of rain and brisk winds with it but it is moving through fairly steadily so most places will end the day on a drier and brighter note. Low pressure remains in charge during the next few days with further showers or longer spells of rain affecting many regions from time to time and it will also be rather windy at times, especially in the north and west.
Although northern and eastern parts of the country are starting off dry this morning it won't last long as a band of rain out to the west continues to push eastwards, the rain heaviest and most persistent the further north that you are, but most places will see some rain before the morning is out although amounts in the south and southeast of England will be small. Following this rain band comes brighter conditions and these will spread eastwards too today so that by the end of this afternoon the rain has cleared all but the far north and east to leave many places with a dry and bright end to the day although showers will pack into the west and northwest later on. Temperatures generally won't be quite as high as they were yesterday with highs in the range of 17°C to 21°C whilst it will be rather windy.
The last of the more persistent rain clears the northeast tonight and then showers, heavy at times, will continue to feed in across many western regions on freshening west/south-westerly winds. Further to the south and east it will be a mainly dry night with some clear spells forming but temperatures won't fall back too far. Tomorrow will then be a windy and showery day for much of the country, the showers heavy and blustery at times, but there will be some brighter spells in-between with parts of the south and southeast seeing a fair amount of dry and bright weather for much of the time.
