Some warm and muggy tropical air has been feeding up across many parts of Britain and Ireland during the last 24 hours or so and with some sunshine breaking through today then we are expecting it to be the warmest day of the month so far. However associated with this muggy air is a lot of moisture so we can expect a lot of cloud in many regions with spells of heavy and persistent rain developing towards the north and west during the next 24 hours.
To start with this morning it is a cloudy and misty start for many areas with some patchy rain and drizzle in places but as we go through today skies will tend to brighten across parts of England and Wales, especially towards the south and east and in some sunshine this afternoon temperatures are likely to climb quickly with maximums of 26°C or 27°C possible in the sunnier spots. Where it remains cloudier it won’t be as warm, but there will be a humid feel in most places. The thickest of the cloud today will be across the north and west where spells of rain are likely at times, the rain becoming heavy and persistent over western Scotland and Northern Ireland later on. At the same time one or two isolated heavy and perhaps thundery showers may break out further south, but these will be pretty isolated and most places will miss these.
A muggy night follows and further periods of heavy rain are expected to continue in the north. This takes us into another warm day tomorrow, especially towards the southeast although conditions will gradually be turning fresher from the west elsewhere. For much of England and Wales it will end up as a mostly dry day with some sunny spells but for Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland rain will push eastwards to leave a mixture of sunny spells and scattered showers.
