The ridge of high pressure that brought the fine weather to much of the country yesterday is now being squeezed away to the east by an approaching frontal system moving in from off the Atlantic. This frontal system will be moving slowly though and so the fine weather is set to hang on across eastern regions today and perhaps for much of tomorrow too.
It’s another rather chilly start to the day across central and eastern regions with some mist, fog and low cloud to clear but once this does so it will be another mostly fine day for central and eastern parts of England although cloud amounts will tend to increase from the west. Meanwhile for much of Scotland, Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland along with Wales and western counties of England cloud will be increasing and thickening from the west as outbreaks of rain, already moving into the west, slowly edge eastwards across these regions, the rain turning heavy and persistent at times. This rain will be accompanied by freshening winds so although milder air will be moving in it won’t necessarily feel it but the best temperatures will come across brighter parts of the east and southeast where highs of 19°C or 20°C are expected.
The east and southeast remains dry tonight but elsewhere it will be mostly cloudy with that rain becoming very slow-moving across parts of Wales, southwest England, Northern Ireland and western Scotland. With the wind and cloud it will be a much milder night with temperatures remaining in double figures for most, but cooler air will move into parts of Ireland as the rain clears here. Looking ahead to tomorrow and it will again be a case of watching that rain band gradually moving further east with brighter, more showery conditions following into the west, but once again the southeast of England is likely to remain dry and bright for much of the day.
