A rather messy synoptic set-up across Britain and Ireland at the moment as weather fronts push eastwards whilst at the same time high pressure is trying to push in from the southwest. Subsequently the fronts are weak affairs, bringing little more than a few showers but a lot of cloud. During the next few days more active frontal systems will be arriving bringing more in the way of rain and brisk winds with them - all very typical for October really.
Back to this morning and for much of the country it is a dry start with variable amounts of cloud and some bright or sunny spells breaking through at times. However, there are some scattered showers feeding into coastal regions exposed to the west/north-westerly breeze and one or two of these could be on the heavy side. For most places although there will be a lot of cloud around again today, there will be plenty of dry weather with just a few scattered showers continuing to affect areas towards the north and west. As we go through this afternoon more in the way of cloud will move in across western Scotland with outbreaks of rain and drizzle developing as the next frontal system approaches from off the Atlantic. Maximum temperatures today will be in the range of 14°C to 18°C and it will feel a touch milder with winds generally lighter than they were yesterday.
Cloudy skies will dominate across many parts of the country tonight but this will have the benefit of holding the temperatures up. Further patchy outbreaks of rain and drizzle will move across northern and western regions, but just about anywhere could see the odd shower. The new working week then starts off on a similar note with further rather weak fronts pushing eastwards bringing a lot of cloud and a few scattered showers with them, the showers most frequent the further north and west that you are with some areas managing to escape with a mainly dry day.
