A brighter day is on the cards for many parts of Britain and Ireland as the trailing frontal system that affected central regions yesterday drifts southwards. However this front looks set to get stuck across southern counties of England and Wales keeping it rather cloudy but mild here for the next couple of days before it finally clears away to the south by the end of the week.
It's a cloudy and murky start to Wednesday across central and southern parts of England and Wales with some patchy rain and drizzle around but brighter conditions across Scotland, northern England, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland will be pushing southwards as we go through the day. However southernmost counties of England are likely to remain rather cloudy with the odd shower or drizzly outbreak of rain throughout the day. Meanwhile, showers will feed into parts of the north and west, mainly across western Scotland where they may be quite heavy and blustery with fresh to strong west/south-westerly winds. Although remaining cloudy, it will be mild in the south with temperatures of up to 18°C, but it will not be quite as mild the further north and west that you go despite the sunshine.
Southern regions remain cloudy and mild again tonight and that cloud with some patchy rain and drizzle will tend to drift back northwards again. However, for many parts of Scotland clearer spells mean that it will be a rather chilly night although there shouldn't be any frost worries thanks to the wind which will continue to bring showers to the far north. Thursday will then be another cloudy and rather mild day for central and southern regions of Britain and Ireland with some patchy rain and drizzle over central areas in particular, but brighter, cooler conditions in the north will spread to all parts as we go through Friday.
