A weakening frontal system is pushing southwards across Britain and Ireland today allowing brighter conditions to follow on from the north. However this front is expected to develop a wave feature tonight and tomorrow bringing with it the risk of more persistent rain returning from the west and it may not be until the weekend before this front finally clears the far south of the country, by which time much colder air will be filtering down from the north.
Thursday morning dawns rather cloudy and damp across many parts of Ireland, England and Wales with some patchy rain and drizzle in places. Meanwhile for Scotland and parts of Northern Ireland clearer conditions have been moving in from the northwest and as we go through the day those clearer conditions will continue to make their way south-eastwards so that by this afternoon many parts of the country will be bright with some good sunny spells around, although scattered showers will affect parts of the north and west at times. However, for southernmost counties of England and Ireland the cloud is likely to linger on, still bringing a little light rain and drizzle in places, and outbreaks of rain will move back in across much of Ireland by this evening. Temperatures for many areas will be close to normal for the time of year despite the west/north-westerly winds which will be brisk in the north.
Outbreaks of rain return from the west across many areas tonight, clearing to colder and more showery conditions in the north by the morning with some patchy frost forming in sheltered areas. However, for the far south of England it may remain mostly dry for much of the night but the cloud will help to hold temperatures up elsewhere. Tomorrow then sees that cloud and some rain becoming confined to the far south and southwest with many places turning bright and breezy, but showers will affect the north and west, turning heavy at times as well as increasingly wintry over higher ground.
