The first weekend of December sees a slightly milder air mass taking over across the country as winds back more west/north-westerly in direction thanks to a large area of high pressure sitting close to the southwest of the country. Weak weather fronts will be moving in around the top of that high though so for many areas it will be a cloudier weekend with temperatures recovering somewhat following the recent cold snap.
For many areas it is a frost free start to the weekend thanks to mostly cloudy skies that have spread down from the northwest overnight. However where some clearer slots have developed there is some frost around with some mist or fog patches. These will soon lift and for much of Britain and Ireland it will be a fairly quiet day with a lot of cloud around for much of the time although some bright or sunny spells will develop in places. On the other hand the cloud will be thick enough to bring the odd shower, and for northern and western regions there is more likely to be some patchy rain and drizzle around, northern parts of Scotland seeing the more persistent rain at times. Temperatures will be on the chilly side but not as cold as the last couple of days with maximums of 6°C to 9°C generally.
The cloudy, less cold theme continue tonight with outbreaks of patchy rain and drizzle sinking southwards across many areas. Some clearer spells may develop across parts of Scotland later in the night and where these occur it will turn cold with some patchy frost forming but on the whole most places will be frost free. This takes us into a very similar day tomorrow with cloudy skies bringing some patchy rain in places, but some brighter or sunnier spells will also develop, especially towards parts of the north and east.
