The first working week of December is here and for many parts of the country it is a benign start to the week with high pressure still sitting close to the south and southwest. We have a weak warm front pushing eastwards today bringing a little patchy rain and drizzle with it, but it isn't really until midweek that we're expecting the weather to turn increasingly unsettled.
For much of Britain and Ireland it is a rather cloudy and murky start to the week with some mist and fog patches in places. We have some patchy rain and drizzle in places too this morning, but as we go through the day these will tend to push away eastwards to leave many areas with variable amounts of cloud and some bright or sunny spells developing by this afternoon. The odd scattered light shower may still break out this afternoon, particularly towards the north and west, but for most regions the day will end on a dry and quiet note. Temperatures will be close to normal today, ranging from 8°C to 11°C generally with light to moderate westerly winds, these winds fresh at times in the north.
Tonight sees many areas remaining mostly cloudy and some further bursts of light rain and drizzle will affect some areas with some mist or fog patches forming. The cloud cover will prevent temperatures from falling too far though with just about all areas avoiding any frost. Looking ahead to tomorrow and with high pressure still sitting close to the south very little change is expected with most areas seeing variable amounts of cloud bringing the risk of a little patchy light rain or drizzle in places, but there will be some brighter interludes as well. However, as we go through the day more persistent rain will move into the far northwest of Scotland with the winds picking up here too.
