It's Christmas Eve, the big man is readying himself for his epic trip and we hope he makes all your dreams come true. Back to the weather and if it's a White Christmas that you are dreaming of then we're afraid that you will be left disappointed, unless you live up a hill or mountain in Scotland where colder air will be filtering south later on Christmas Day bringing the chance of some snow showers by Christmas Night.
For today though it is another predominantly mild and cloudy day across much of Britain and Ireland. Many parts of England and Wales along with the south and east of the Republic of Ireland will see a mainly dry day with just the odd patchy outbreak of rain or drizzle passing through at times. However across northwest Ireland, northern parts of Northern Ireland and Scotland there will be more in the way of rain developing, particularly across western Scotland where the rain will be heavy and persistent with some spots in this region seeing in excess of 2 inches (50 mm) of rain today before it starts to slip away to the south later on. It will be another mild but increasingly windy day with temperatures into double figures for most again.
Santa will have a mild trip tonight but he will have to battle some rather strong winds whilst much of the north and west see further spells of rain, this heavy at times over higher ground in particular. This takes us into a mild Christmas morning with that rain in the north and west slowly making its way south-eastwards allowing brighter and colder conditions with wintry showers to arrive in the northwest during Christmas afternoon, but for south-eastern parts of England Christmas Day will be mainly dry if cloudy and remaining mild with the rain not arriving until after dark.
Finally all that's left is for us to thank you for your continued support and to wish you all a very Happy Christmas!
