It's another unsettled day of weather across many parts of Britain and Ireland as a deep Atlantic low pressure system pushes north-eastwards close to the north of Scotland bringing heavy rain and gales or severe gales with it before colder, brighter and more showery conditions follow on behind.
To start with this morning we have outbreaks of rain across northern and eastern Scotland along with many parts of northern England as well as down into Wales, the rain locally heavy in places. To the southeast it is a dry, mild and mostly cloudy morning but that band of quite heavy and squally rain will be pushing south-eastwards during the day, clearing the southeast of England by this evening. Clearer conditions with scattered showers will then follow on from the northwest, but most of the showers will be across Scotland and Northern Ireland where gale or severe gale force winds will gust up to 70-80 MPH in exposed spots before slowly easing a touch from the west later. It will be windy everywhere though, with winds liable to gust to as high as 60-65 MPH ahead of that rain across England and Wales before easing a touch later. It will be mild ahead of the rain with top temperatures of 11°C or 12°C, but it will be turning colder in the wake of that rain band despite the sunshine with temperatures widely back down into single figures this afternoon.
It remains windy tonight and although many eastern regions will become mainly dry, further showers will feed into western regions, these showers heavy at times, with snow for the Scottish mountains. It will be colder than last night, but any frost will mainly be confined to more sheltered spots. This takes us into a breezy and showery day tomorrow as low pressure continues to dominate the weather and it will be starting to feel colder again.
