After the much brighter and warmer day that many parts of the country enjoyed yesterday, things go downhill again today, particularly across central and western regions where an Atlantic frontal system moving in brings brisk winds and rain with it. However this front will be weakening as it meets high pressure sitting to the east, and during the next few days that area of high pressure will begin to take over across much of the UK and Ireland.
For many northern and eastern parts of the UK, Sunday dawns dry with some sunny spells around although there are some patches of mist, fog and low cloud to lift and clear. For much of northern and eastern Scotland, along with easternmost fringes of England, it will then be a mostly dry day with further sunny spells although cloud amounts will tend to increase from the west. Meanwhile for much of the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, Wales and southwest England it is a dull and overcast start to the day with outbreaks of rain pushing north-eastwards and this rain continues to edge further north and east today, but will tend to become more showery in nature as it does so. Brighter skies with the odd shower will then follow on into south-western regions during this afternoon. Temperatures will generally be a touch cooler today due to the cloud and brisk south/south-easterly wind with highs in the range of 12°C to 15°C, but brighter parts of northeast Scotland will be a degree or two warmer.
Showery outbreaks of rain will continue to push northwards this evening and tonight but by the end of the night the rain and drizzle will tend to become confined to more northern and western regions of Britain and Ireland with some clearer spells developing further south. It won't be a cold night though with lowest temperatures of 4°C to 8°C. For the start of the new working week and Monday will see outbreaks of rain moving into the west and northwest along with strong winds, but the further south and east that you are the drier, brighter and warmer it will become with these warmer and more settled conditions extending to many areas by midweek.
