The very warm air mass that has provided some very impressive maximums over the last couple of days will be departing our shores during this weekend but it is likely to be the end of tomorrow before it clears away from southeast England. As this warm air leaves then there is a risk of some scattered thunderstorms developing later today and into tonight as a trough develops ahead of the cold front that then pushes east tomorrow.
This morning is starting off rather misty and murky in many areas with some fog and low cloud having formed overnight. Outside of these murky areas it is otherwise a generally fine and dry start to the weekend and there will be plenty of warm sunny spells around again today. However, there are some thundery showers in the English Channel heading towards parts of southern and south-western England and we will be watching these showers today as they drift slowly north/northeast although they will tend to weaken as they do so before the risk of further showers increases again later this afternoon and into the evening period. It will be another very warm day with maximums for the London area of around 27°C. On the whole though many parts of England and Wales will see temperatures in the range of 18°C to 23°C, but it will be cooler around coasts where some mist and fog may continue to lurk, and it will also be cooler across Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland with top values here of 14°C to 17°C.
Further thundery showers are expected to break out across southern and eastern parts of the UK tonight - please see our storm discussion page for further details on the risk. Elsewhere it will be dry with some clear spells, but thickening cloud will bring outbreaks of rain into the west and northwest as that cold front arrives. This cold front pushes eastwards during tomorrow, weakening as it does so therefore the rain will turn more patchy in nature, but for south-eastern regions of the UK plenty of fine and very warm weather is expected again for much of the day once any early showers clear.
