The pattern that we're currently in looks set to continue for several more days yet with high pressure holding firm to the north and northeast whilst low pressure to the south tries to edge northwards bringing the risk of thundery showers to southern regions from time to time. With this set-up then winds will continue to come in from the east or northeast which means mist, low cloud and cooler temperatures will plague eastern coasts at times.
For today the areas of mist, fog and low cloud that have spread in from the east overnight will gradually burn back to eastern coasts to leave most places with another fine and sunny day. However, like yesterday, some eastern and north-eastern coasts will remain rather cool and misty with extensive low cloud feeding in off the North Sea on those north-easterly winds. It won't be fine everywhere though as there is more in the way of thicker cloud spreading into central southern counties of England, this cloud bringing some showery rain in places which could be heavy and accompanied by thunder but there will be some drier and brighter intervals in-between. It will be another warm day with top temperatures in the range of 20°C to 24°C, the highest temperatures coming towards the west and northwest, but it will be cooler around coasts with onshore breezes.
A dry night follows for many northern regions of Britain and Ireland with clear spells but mist, fog and low cloud will again develop, especially towards the east and northeast. However, for central and southern counties of England and Wales there will be some showery rain pushing in from the east, this turning heavy with a risk of hail and thunder in places, but the showers will be quite hit and miss with some areas missing them. Tomorrow sees a band of heavy, perhaps thundery, showers edging north-westwards with brighter conditions following into the south. Meanwhile to the north and west it will remain mostly fine, warm and sunny.
