It's been a lively week of weather across many parts of Britain and Ireland with a couple of named storms crossing the country but the good news, if you've had enough of the wind and rain, is that high pressure returns as we go into next week promising a return to calmer conditions.
The weekend is starting off on a fine and chilly note across many parts of the country with plenty of sunshine around. There are still a few showers feeding in across the north and west of Scotland, whilst towards the southwest thickening cloud is bringing outbreaks of rain in across southern parts of Ireland, Wales and southwest England. This rain will turn heavy and persistent in the southwest as it continues to edge further north and east today, reaching parts of the Midlands, central southern England and southeast England by this evening. Meanwhile to the north it will remain mostly dry and bright with sunny spells and even the showers in the far north and west will tend to become lighter and less frequent. Temperatures today will range from 12°C to 15°C in many regions, but it will be slightly warmer in the far southwest and across the Channel Islands.
The rain in the south will tend to slowly ease during this evening and into the night before another pulse of heavier and more persistent rain moves in across southern Ireland, Wales and southwest England later in the night. Further north it will be a dry night away from the showery northwest with clear spells and it will turn rather chilly with some local frost in the north, but temperatures will hold up under the cloud and rain in the south. Sunday will be a dull, cool and wet day across southern parts of Britain with rain slowly pulling away to the east as the brighter, more showery conditions elsewhere slowly spread south and east.
