Following the glorious day that many areas experienced yesterday, some changes are in store for today as frontal systems push in from the west bringing more in the way of cloud and the risk of some showery rain at times. However, temperatures will remain on the warm side as we continue to draw air in from the south or southwest.
Showery outbreaks of rain have pushed in from the south and west across some areas overnight and so it’s a rather cloudy start to Thursday with some mist and fog patches around too. Those showery outbreaks, locally heavy with thunder, will continue to push north-eastwards this morning so that by this afternoon many eastern regions become brighter with some sunny spells developing. However, out towards the west it will remain cloudier and windier with further outbreaks of rain pushing in, the rain turning quite heavy at times and perhaps accompanied by thunder in one or two spots before drier conditions follow on into Ireland and southwest England. Top temperatures today will come across those brighter central and eastern regions where maximums of 21°C to 23°C are expected. It won’t be as warm further to the north and west, but will still be on the mild side of normal despite the brisk winds.
That band of showery rain will push further eastwards this evening and tonight but will tend to become lighter and patchier as it does so before clearing away from the northeast by dawn. However, freshening winds will then bring more heavy rain into western regions later in the night but all this cloud will make for another mild night. The working week then ends with wind and rain pushing further eastwards across many regions with a risk of severe gales developing in the northwest before brighter and more showery conditions return to western regions, but south-eastern parts of England may remain dry for much of the day.
