We’re back to a north/south split in the weather again today as high pressure holds on across southern Britain bringing plenty of fine weather here but further to the north frontal systems moving in from off the North Atlantic will be bringing more cloud, breeze and some rain or drizzle at times.
For many central and southern parts of the UK it is a chilly start with some frost and fog in places, some of the fog locally on the dense side. This will soon lift and clear and then the day will be fine and dry with plenty of sunshine around although high cloud will make the sunshine hazy at times. There will be more in the way of cloud across many parts of Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, this cloud thick enough to bring some rain at times to northern and western parts of Scotland this morning before edging a little further southeast during the day, perhaps reaching higher parts of northern England and north Wales by the end of the afternoon as brighter skies follow on into the far northwest. After that chilly start in the south, temperatures will recover to reach highs of 13°C to 16°C but it will be slightly cooler towards the north where there will also be a brisk west/south-westerly wind.
No huge changes are expected tonight with it turning rather chilly where skies clear and winds are light. There will be variable amounts of cloud around though, especially towards the north and west where occasional outbreaks of rain and drizzle are possible from time to time. Into the weekend and the north/south split looks set to continue with northern regions always at greatest risk of seeing cloudier skies with some rain at times accompanied by brisk winds whilst southern areas are drier, brighter and a touch warmer.
