You may have seen and heard news reports over the last couple of days relating to storms and flooding across parts of the Mediterranean thanks to low pressure dominating the scene. Today sees that low pushing northwards across mainland Europe and out over the North Sea bringing some wet and windy weather to the southeast of England for a time although nothing too extreme is expected. The outlook in general for the rest of the week is then looking rather cool and changeable but nothing out of the ordinary for the time of year.
For this morning it’s a fine and cold start for many northern and western regions of the country with some fog and frost around but there will be plenty of sunshine coming through with many regions remaining fine and dry today although one or two scattered showers will break out in places, particularly across western Ireland this afternoon. Meanwhile, for eastern and south-eastern parts of England it is a different story with a lot of cloud and wind around, the northerly winds touching gale force in exposed spots. Outbreaks of rain and showers are pushing northwards, these heaviest and most persistent in easternmost regions. This rain will tend to push away to the north as we go through the day with somewhat brighter conditions developing during the afternoon although some eastern regions will hold onto a lot of cloud and some rain for much of the day. Temperatures will be rather subdued in many regions, barely making double figures, and it will feel cold towards the wetter parts of the east where winds will also be at their strongest.
The winds will slowly ease in the east tonight with any remaining showers dying out and as skies clear it will turn cold with a widespread frost forming in many places. However some western coastal regions will be less cold as showery activity tends to increase here during the course of the night. Tomorrow sees further showery outbreaks of rain affecting western parts of Britain and Ireland but for many Wednesday will be a bright day with some sunny spells although temperatures will still be a touch below where they should be for the final day of October.
