High pressure is set to become a significant feature of our weather in the coming days as it builds strongly to our east and northeast, eventually drawing in some colder air from the east as we go into next week. For the time being though it remains mild and there's some more wet weather on the way for parts of the north and west.
There is a lot of cloud around across the country this morning, the thickest of which is bringing outbreaks of rain and drizzle across many parts of Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland with some rain also affecting parts of Wales and northern England. It is mainly dry towards the south and east of England however and as we go through today the heaviest of the rain will tend to push away to the north leaving a legacy of a lot of cloud and further patchy light rain and drizzle across northern and western regions. Otherwise brighter conditions will tend to develop across England and Wales with some sunny spells developing by this afternoon, the best of the sunshine always coming the further southeast that you are. Despite the fresh winds which will be strong at times in the north and west, it will be a mild day with temperatures in many areas reaching highs of 12°C to 15°C.
As we go through tonight there will be a lot of cloud around with some mist and drizzle developing in places, but more persistent rain will develop across western parts of Scotland and the Republic of Ireland later in the night. It will be a mild night for most parts with temperatures holding up in double figures in many places, but where skies do clear and wind ease, it could turn quite chilly over rural parts of northern England. Further spells of rain and strong winds will affect north-western parts of Britain and Ireland again tomorrow but elsewhere it will be drier and even though there will be a lot of cloud around, it will remain mild.
