High pressure continues to reside across Scandinavia today with those easterly winds feeding in but there will be some subtle changes in that the cloudless skies that many places saw over the weekend will be filled in by increasing amounts of cloud moving in from off the North Sea as colder air heading this way sparks off more convection from the warm North Sea.
Already this morning there is more in the way of cloud around, especially across central and eastern regions, so the best of the sunshine today will be found towards western regions with some shelter from the brisk easterly wind. Some sunny spells will develop in central and eastern districts too, but on the whole there will be more in the way of cloud around and as we head on through the day there will be an increasing chance of some showers breaking out, these perhaps developing into bands of more persistent showers across parts of Norfolk into the Midlands and towards the south coast of England by this afternoon. Otherwise there will again be plenty of dry weather around with the highest temperatures of 10°C to 12°C coming towards the northwest, but values will be nearer 8°C or 9°C towards the south and east with the wind making it feel colder.
The showers tend to become more widespread and frequent tonight, especially across central and eastern parts of Britain as the easterly winds become strong with coastal gales possible. A few showers may filter through to western areas too, but where skies are clearer and there's some shelter from the wind it will turn cold with some patchy frost forming. Tuesday will then be a cold and windy day with further showers pushing in off the North Sea, the showers heavy and prolonged in places and perhaps falling as snow over higher ground in the north, but more sheltered western districts will remain drier and brighter.
