Low pressure to the north of Scotland today is in charge of the weather with blustery westerly winds bringing a fair number of showers with them. The outlook remains unsettled into the first days of December too with an active jet stream sending further low pressure systems our way meaning further bouts of wet weather can be expected from time to time although it won't be quite as windy as it has been.
Friday is dawning bright in many areas and there is a somewhat colder feel to the day compared to the mildness of the last couple of days thanks to that change in wind direction. Plenty of showers are feeding into many northern and western regions of the country, some heavy with hail and even a rumble or two of thunder possible and some snow is likely over the Scottish mountains. The showers continue for much of today, always most frequent towards the north and west with parts of southern and eastern Britain escaping with a mostly dry and bright day, but even in the north and west the showers will tend to ease later. The winds won't be quite as strong, but temperatures will be a touch lower compared to recently with maximums in the range of 4°C to 7°C in the north and 8°C to 11°C further south.
Showers will continue to die out this evening, but a few will keep going across the far north and west of Scotland for much of the night. Where skies clear and winds drop a touch it will turn rather chilly with some frost forming in the north, but further to the south temperatures will tend to lift after a chilly evening as the next area of rain moves in, this rain reaching all but eastern counties of England by the morning. This rain fairly clears away to the east tomorrow with brighter spells and a few showers following on behind although some southern counties may remain rather cloudy.
