A ridge of high pressure is set to bring a mostly quiet day across many parts of the British Isles. However, an approaching Atlantic frontal system will bring freshening winds and an increasing risk of rain to western parts of Ireland later on although the eastwards progress of this system will be very erratic.
Most places are starting off on a rather dull and misty note this morning with some locally rather dense fog patches around, especially in rural areas. However, there are some brighter spells away from the misty areas and as we go through the day many places will see somewhat brighter skies breaking through with perhaps one or two sunny spells. On the whole though there will continue to be a lot of cloud around, and whilst most places will stay dry, the odd patch of light rain or drizzle cannot be ruled out and more persistent rain will move into western parts of Ireland this afternoon. Winds away from the west will be light whilst temperatures will be around normal, but it will feel rather cold where it remains dull and misty.
Little change is expected tonight with variable amounts of cloud and some mist or fog patches forming in places where skies do clear. The main exception will be across parts of Ireland and Northern Ireland where some rain will continue to try and push in from the west, the rain turning heavy and persistent in places with some rain reaching parts of western Scotland, Wales and and southwest England later in the night. It will be mild in the west, but where any clearer spells develop in the east then temperatures will take a tumble. Tomorrow sees very little change with many places remaining dry and quiet with some bright spells developing at times. Western regions will again see more in the way of thicker cloud and the risk of some rain although this will tend to die out later.
