An upper cold pool moving around the southern flank of the blocking high over Scandinavia is drifting towards south-eastern parts of England today but as it is almost mid-April this will do little more than bring some cold winds and the odd shower or two. Otherwise for many areas the weekend starts off as the working week ended with mainly settled conditions prevailing.
Once again it is a frosty start to the day across many areas away from windward coasts with temperatures in some spots having dropped to as low as -3°C overnight. However, the upside of the clear skies is that there will be plenty of sunshine around this morning and for many areas it will be another dry day with sunny intervals and variable amounts of cloud drifting around. Again there will be more in the way of cloud around towards eastern coastal districts where a chilly breeze will bring one or two scattered showers at times and later on today thickening cloud and freshen south-easterly winds will bring the risk of some rain into westernmost parts of Ireland. Top temperatures today will be similar to those of yesterday, ranging from a chilly 6°C or 7°C along eastern coasts to 11°C or 12°C towards the far west although the strengthening winds here will make it feel colder.
Another cold night follows for inland regions of the UK with a frost forming where skies clear and winds drop a touch, but coastal areas and many parts of the west will stay frost free thanks to more cloud and breeze, the cloud bringing some rain into Ireland with the odd shower towards eastern coasts. Tomorrow sees more of the same with the west seeing more cloud and some rain over Ireland and the far southwest of England and the continued risk of a few showers towards eastern coasts, otherwise many places will again be mainly dry with variable amounts of cloud and some sunny spells.
