Some changes in the weather over the next 24 hours as a warm front moving in from the southwest today brings increasing cloud and some rain or drizzle with it before the warmer air mass following helps to lift temperatures over the next few days. The weekend is currently looking very warm towards the south-east of the UK although it may not hang around for long.
Back to this morning and it is a rather cool and sunny start to Wednesday across many regions with the sunshine helping to lift temperatures. There is more cloud affecting many parts of the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, Wales and southwest England though as that warm front edges in with outbreaks of rain and drizzle developing. This cloudy and damp weather will continue to slowly push north and east today, reaching much of the rest of England and Wales along with southern parts of Scotland by this evening. Much of the rain will be light, but one or two heavier outbreaks cannot be ruled out with the most persistent rain likely to come across Northern Ireland. Drier but rather cloudy conditions will follow on from the southwest, meanwhile for northern and north-eastern Scotland it will be a bright day with sunny spells and just the odd shower. Top temperatures will range from 10°C to 13°C in the north and 15°C to 18°C further south, becoming muggier towards the southwest.
A mild and rather muggy night follows for many areas with temperatures for many holding well up in double figures thanks to a lot of lingering cloud and the warmer air mass. Outbreaks of rain and drizzle will tend to become confined to central and southern regions of Scotland during the night, although some damp weather may continue around western coasts and hills, whilst the north remains clearer and chillier. Thursday will then see a lot of cloud drifting around, but some warm sunny spells towards the south and east will help lift temperatures into the low twenties. Meanwhile, more northern and western regions will be cooler with a greater risk of some rain or drizzle at times.
