The remnants of ex-hurricane Dorian are currently making their way across the country this morning and will clear away to the east today to leave a drier and brighter interlude before the remnants of ex-tropical storm Gabrielle spread in from the west tomorrow. These systems have long lost their tropical characteristics so no particularly adverse weather is expected from them as they move through.
It's a rather breezy morning out there and there's a fair amount of cloud around across many regions this morning with outbreaks of rain and drizzle sinking south-eastwards across England, Wales and Ireland, the rain most persistent over west-facing hills. Clearer and more showery conditions have already returned to the northwest though and these brighter skies will follow on to all but the far south by the end of today. Showers will continue across Scotland, particularly across the north and west, but even here they will tend to ease later on with many areas seeing a fine end to the day. It will become quite warm in the sunshine this afternoon with top temperatures in the range of 18°C to 21°C but it will always remain that bit cooler towards the north with highs here in the low teens at best and feeling cooler still in the wind.
The far south, including the Channel Islands, remains cloudy and damp tonight, but for many areas it will be a dry night with clear spells and some patchy mist or low cloud forming in places. However, later in the night thickening cloud will bring outbreaks of rain and drizzle to the west and northwest, the rain turning heavy at times over west-facing hills and mountains. This cloudy, damp weather spreads across other northern regions tomorrow but for southern and south-eastern counties of England it will be a bright and rather warm day with temperatures into the low-twenties.
