The remnants of ex-Tropical Storm Gabrielle make their way across the country during the next day or so and then a change to an increasingly fine and settled outlook takes place for many regions as high pressure takes control in the coming days although the far north and northwest will remain rather more changeable at times.
Outbreaks of rain are already moving into the northwest of Britain and Ireland this morning and this rain will continue to push eastwards across much of northern Britain today, the rain always heaviest and most persistent across west-facing hills and mountains. During this afternoon that band of cloud and increasingly patchy rain will reach northern and western parts of England and Wales with brighter and more showery conditions following into the northwest. Meanwhile, towards the south and east of England it will be a dry day with plenty of sunshine around this morning before cloud tends to increase from the northwest during the afternoon, but it will become warm with top temperatures of 20°C to 22°C. It will be cooler further to the north and west that you are, and feeling fresher in a brisk breeze.
That band of cloud and patchy rain continues to sink slowly south-eastwards tonight, clearing all but the far southeast by the end of the night. Clearer conditions will then follow on behind which will allow for temperatures to drop back down into single figures, but showers will continue to pepper northern and western coastal regions. The working week is then set to end on a mostly fine note for much of the country with showers in the north tending to ease as high pressure builds. This theme continues into the weekend with chilly nights and warm days for many, but the far north will be breezier with a risk of a little rain or drizzle from time to time.
