A trailing frontal system lingers across southern counties of the UK during the next 36 hours or so and will edge back northwards for a time tonight and tomorrow as a wave feature runs north-eastwards along the front bringing a spell of heavy and persistent rain to many parts of England and Wales. Meanwhile, northern regions will see drier conditions this weekend although scattered showers cannot be ruled out.
It’s a dull and damp start to the weekend across southern and south-eastern parts of England where occasional outbreaks of rain and drizzle are continuing to run their way north-eastwards. Not a huge amount of change is expected today in these areas but the thicker cloud will tend to edge back northwards into central regions ahead of heavier and more persistent rain moving into the south and southwest later on. Meanwhile, for the rest of England, much of Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland there will be much more in the way of drier weather around with some sunny spells although scattered showers will break out at times. Not everywhere will see the showers but where they do occur they could be heavy. Temperatures will be in the range of 11°C to 15°C for many whilst winds will be lighter than they were yesterday.
Showers will ease in the north tonight with clear skies allowing for a chilly night to develop across Scotland, but it will be progressively milder the further south and southeast you are. This will be as a result of outbreaks of heavy rain pushing their way northwards across England and Wales, reaching all but the far north of England by dawn. Meanwhile scattered showers will continue across Ireland where they could be on the heavy side. Sunday starts wet across many parts of England and Wales and the rain will only slowly clear away to the east with the brighter conditions to the north and west following on although further showers cannot be ruled out.
