Yes, high pressure is trying to build in today, however, there is a big "but" in that low pressure looks set to return close to southeast England later on today and into tomorrow bringing the risk of more persistent rain here to spoil what is otherwise a drier outlook for many parts of Britain and Ireland.
It's a rather chilly start to Sunday across many inland regions where skies cleared and winds were light overnight but there will be a fair amount of sunshine around to compensate once any mist or fog patches clear. We still have some scattered showers feeding into areas exposed to the northerly breeze, these heaviest and most frequent across northern and eastern parts of Scotland, but also affecting parts of Ireland and Northern Ireland. These showers will continue in these areas today, with some persistent showers again affecting parts of northeast England and southeast Scotland for a time, otherwise for many places it will be a dry day with some sunny intervals. It will be rather chilly in the breeze with top temperatures ranging from 7°C to 12°C for many, but it will remain a touch milder in the more sheltered south and southwest.
Later today cloud amounts will increase towards the south-eastern corner of England and East Anglia with the north/north-easterly wind picking up and this process continues tonight ahead of outbreaks of rain pushing up from the near continent but this will help hold temperatures up. Elsewhere, and once any showers have tended to die away, apart from around windward coasts, drier and clearer spells will develop, especially across more sheltered inland regions allowing for it to turn chilly with some patchy frost possible in the north and west. Monday will then see brisk winds and outbreaks of rain across the southeast slowly easing with many other parts of Britain and Ireland seeing a dry and bright start to the week with just the odd shower.
