Low pressure is still sitting close to northwest Scotland today bringing further heavy and wintry showers here but for many there will be more in the way of drier and brighter spells around as a weak ridge of high pressure tries to push in. However, a frontal system lurking over the near continent will form an area of low pressure on it during the next 24 hours and as this pushes northwards so rain will move into southeast England later on today and into tomorrow.
For this morning it is a bright and chilly start in many areas with some frost and ice in areas where skies have remained clear for long enough and where winds have ease. There are still some scattered showers affecting northern and western coasts whilst an area of rain and hill snow is now moving into western Scotland. This doesn't move far today so it will end up rather wet here, but for most places it will be a dry day with some bright winter sunshine and just the odd shower around western coasts. There will, however, be more in the way of cloud towards the south-eastern corner of England and this will thicken up to bring some rain and drizzle to the far southeast of England and the Channel Islands by this evening. It will be a rather cold day for many places with top temperatures in the range of 4°C to 7°C but it will be milder in the far south with double figure maximums here.
A frost develops in many northern and western regions tonight as skies clear and any showers become confined to western regions of Scotland. It will be milder towards the south and southeast though thanks to outbreaks of rain pushing northwards out of France, the rain becoming quite persistent across parts of Kent and East Anglia. The rain will only slowly ease during tomorrow so a rather dull and damp Tuesday is in store for the southeast but away from here it will be another mostly dry and bright day with just the odd shower but a widespread frost will form after dark.
