Some exceptionally wet weather is on the way during the next few days across south-facing hills and mountains across parts of southern Ireland, south Wales, southern and south-west England as a very mild and moist southerly air stream sets in. Some areas could see in excess of three inches of rain and following the recent wet conditions, this will bring an increased risk of flooding and landslips along with some hazardous travelling conditions.
A slow-moving frontal system across England and Wales will bring periods of heavy rain northwards throughout the next 24 hours with only limited drier intervals. This morning starts wet across central and southern parts of England and although this area of rain will push north/north-eastwards to leave a somewhat drier spell, another batch of heavy rain will move in across much of England and Wales during this afternoon with some of this rain moving into eastern parts of Ireland too. Meanwhile, for much of Scotland, Northern Ireland and western parts of Ireland it will be drier and brighter today with some sunny spells and just a few showers. It will be milder than of late for most places, despite the strong southerly winds and the rain, with temperatures in the south touching the low teens.
That rain continues on its journey northwards tonight, moving across much of Scotland and Northern Ireland. Somewhat drier conditions follow on from the south, but another area of rain, locally heavy, will push north across England and Wales during the second half of the night. All this weather activity means that it will be a mild night with no frost worries. Tomorrow sees the more persistent rain slowly pulling away to the east to leave many areas drier and brighter but still with a risk of showers, especially towards the south and west.
