One day soon we may be able to bring you news of a fine and settled weekend, and it could even be next weekend! However, it certainly won't be this weekend as the latest area of low pressure moving in off the Atlantic brings further showers or longer spells of rain to many regions along with brisk winds.
For today we are keeping an eye on a couple of frontal systems. The first is making its way eastwards across much of the UK this morning bringing outbreaks of rain with it along with some snow for the Scottish mountains. This weakening rain band will continue to head east today with brighter conditions following on from the west, however, the Northern Isles will remain mostly cloudy and damp. A scattering of showers will break out in the brighter areas by this afternoon, by which stage the next batch of cloud and rain will be pushing in across many western regions of Britain and Ireland, heaviest towards the northwest. Temperatures will be picking up a touch, especially in the brighter spells with maximums of 7°C to 10°C in the north and 11°C to 13°C further south.
That second rain band slips only slowly south-eastwards tonight, becoming rather slow-moving in a zone extending from southwest England, up across Wales and northern England, the rain becoming quite persistent over higher ground in particular. To the southeast it will become mostly dry, whilst clearer but more showery conditions move into the northwest. Tomorrow sees that band of rain only slowly sinking south-eastwards across England and Wales, but the far southeast will probably remain dry for much of the day. Brighter conditions with scattered showers will affect the north and west, these heaviest towards the far northwest whilst snow is expected over high ground.
