Low pressure centred over or close to southern England today will bring a cold and wet day to central and southern regions with temperatures in some spots held back down in single figures all day, this coming as a big shock to the system following recent days which have seen unbroken sunshine and temperatures widely into the low-twenties.
Many parts of England and Wales are dawning cloudy this morning as outbreaks of rain affect many central and southern regions, the rain locally quite heavy and persistent. This rain doesn't go far today, but some southernmost counties will turn drier and brighter for a while by this afternoon. The rain will struggle to extend much further north than from Lancashire across to Yorkshire with many northern and western parts of Britain along with Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland seeing some bright or sunny spells along with a few scattered showers, these heavy at times although not everywhere will catch one. Temperatures across parts of England and Wales will really struggle in the wetter zones with maximums of 8°C or 9°C, feeling colder in the north-easterly wind. Elsewhere and maximums of 11°C to 15°C are expected so cooler than recent days for most places.
The cloud and rain across central and eastern Britain this evening will pull away to the east tonight but leaving a fair amount of cloud in its wake whilst temperatures won't fall too far. Under clearer skies further north it will turn chilly with some frost over inland parts of the north, but showers will continue in coastal regions out towards the west. Tomorrow sees a new frontal system pushing in from the southwest so after a dry and bright start, cloud and rain will push north-eastwards during the day although northern Britain will stay dry and bright for much of the day.
