A fairly breezy end to the working week on the weather front with a weakening frontal system crossing the south of the country bringing a little rain with them whilst showers affect the north and west. The showery theme continues into the weekend too, especially in the north, with somewhat fresher conditions moving down from the northwest.
It's a bright start to the day for many areas with some sunshine around but a few showers are feeding into north-western regions of Britain and Ireland. Thickening cloud is also streaming into south-western parts of the country ahead of outbreaks of rain and drizzle moving in from the southwest, these cloudy and damp conditions slowly spreading eastwards across central and southern parts of England and Wales today although parts of East Anglia and southeast England will remain dry and bright until late on. For the rest of the country it will be a bright and breezy day with sunny spells and scattered showers breaking out, the showers locally quite heavy and blustery but always most frequent towards the north and west of Scotland. Temperatures today for many regions will be in the range of 16°C to 19°C, but could reach as high as 21°C across brighter parts of southeast England.
The rain may turn more persistent across southeast England this evening before clearing away overnight. This leaves many areas will some clear spells tonight as showers ease back to northern and western coastal regions and temperatures will drop back into single figures in many rural regions. This means a bright and fresh start for the weekend and whilst most places will see some sunny spells, showers in the north and west will tend to become more widespread as we head on through the day although not everywhere will see them.
